Winter B Rides by KBK !!
Saturday Rides:
For your saturday riding pleasure, we will have a loverly tour de' Boulder Res. Loop that takes you from Vics (next to the place formerly known as our bike shop) in Longmont, down 75th, Diagonal, Jay Rd and then up to 36. Stop in and thaw yourselves at Amante on Yarmouth and Broadway and stop in to drip snow on the floor of our new bike shop (Boulder Cycle Sports) and then back up to Neva Rd. And home. This ride is a gradual up from about 5000 ft to right near my house in N. Boulder at 5600ft. Given you'll have 12 miles to make that gain of 640 ft, that's 50ft uphill in a mile. Here is the "Map My Ride" Link: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/co/longmont/171069392606
Sunday Rides:
Sundays have you riding up to a virtual plateau in Lyons for a stop in at the Barking Dog (or dare I say, Oskar Blues?). This is another straight-forward ride from Vics, up 75th, left on Hygiene Rd. Up a bit of 36 and then into downtown Lyons! http://www.mapmyride.com/edit_route?r=430203830330 This ride is about 22 miles long with a gain of 522ft.
As usual, meet at the place of meeting at what? 10am in the Winter? Someone correct me if I got that wrong. Come with all gear you need and a couple bucks for a warm spot of tea!

Sunday Summer B-ride Route Change due to road construction on 66!
If you choose to ride the scheduled Sunday summer B ride, I recommend the following route change, to avoid the construction on 66. It involves heading back a little ways in to Longmont, from Hygiene and then winding a couple of miles through North West Longmont, back up to where you can catch N. 87th, without having to ride 66 (other than crossing at Airport Rd).
Leave per the scheduled route, from Ziggis and head to 75th. When you get to 17th Ave (at the main intersection in Hygiene), turn right and head east back in to Longmont.
Just past Airport road, take your first left on to Lakeshore Drive. Take Lakeshore approx. 3/4 mile to Harvard, where you will again turn left. You will travel a very short distance to the next left turn (Northshore, just past the power station).
Northshore to Horizon (1st stop sign), turn left again. Horizon to Airport (t-intersection), turn rt and you will be at 66 at the next stop sign. After crossing 66 you will be on N. 87th, which is part of the scheduled route. The remainder of the route will stay the same.

Group Ride Maps for January/February are now available at www.mapmyride.com!
Maps for both A & B Blue Sky Velo Group rides can be found at www.mapmyride.com. Type in a search for BSV and all of the rides should appear. Simply click on the ride you're interested in and the map will come up. We hope to have those maps on our website soon.
As these are the first rides of 2009, I think it's helpful to review the following guidelines for BSV B-rides:
Blue Sky Velo group rides are no-lead rides. B-rides are also intended to be no-drop rides. Routes for Blue Sky are pre-planned and will stay the same until otherwise posted by Kevin (2009 Road Captain) and myself . Look for changes at approximately 2 month intervals. Anytime you would like to extend or shorten your ride you may choose to do so by "dropping" yourself and heading out on your own. Please let someone in the group know if you plan on deviating from the route.
Ride at speeds of approx. 15 - 17 mph.
Rides will not take place if the high temperature for the day will be below 40 degrees or if wind speeds close to 20 mph are forecast.
Above all, remember that group rides are meant to be fun for everyone on the ride. Welcome new members and help out those who might be riding in a group for the first time. Follow all traffic and cycling laws and be courteous to other riders and drivers with whom we share the roadways!
See you on the road soon!
